It seems so recent but it has already been three weeks since the SBG team went to Milan for Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017. The world capital of fashion hosted the best and most iconic Italian brands, as they put to rest all the questions about what their upcoming collections would include. We were lucky enough to be there, wandering around some of the landmarks of the city, admiring the street-style and interviewing some very stylish people. Of course our focus during was on eyewear and we spotted some great looks, as well as the trends for the upcoming season.

Square Frames

The evergreen style of square frames adorned many faces in Milan. Amid all the chaotic and eccentric looks, this classic was still able to stand out.

Metal

It’s not just about shape and colour, the material of frames is a crucial feature of modern eyewear. Metal frames are being chosen more and more for their strength, flexibility, light weight, or purely as an aesthetic choice. Whatever the inspiration, Milan was awash with metal.

Round Cat-Eye

Without a doubt, the style that we saw the most was the round cat eye. Whether finishing off an already pointy outfit or adding a touch of flair to something more conservative, the cat eye is a cover-all.

Geometrical

Suppress the horror memories of high-school maths, geometrical shapes and glasses go together. Chunky frames and sharp angles add an extra element to any outfit.

Double Bridge

Double bridge glasses are nothing new, but they are seeing a real renaissance at the moment. Beyond just the second bar on a pair of pilot style glasses, more and more styles are making the double bridge an important feature of their frames.

Flat Lens

Forget the curves and embrace the flat lens. A simple aesthetic feature, the flat lens can make a well known frame look completely fresh and new. Although it is a rather subtle change, the flat lens is gaining serious popularity among fashion followers by offering a very noticeable twist on a classic style.

Contrast

The comfy and sleek swish of silk pyjama style outfits were the highlight of many shows at MFW. Many bloggers and commentators who we were able to speak with confirmed this. Pairing with a set of sharply angled frames creates a striking contrast.
