The History of the MIU MIU Brand
Named after the nickname given to the creative director of Prada, Miuccia Prada, Miu Miu is the diffusion line of the Prada fashion house and often referred to as the younger sister to Prada. Launched in 1993, Miu Miu offers a more colorful and avant-garde look compared to Prada. In fact, Miuccia Prada saw the launch of Miu Miu as an opportunity to explore new territory. At a time when Prada was at its most minimalist, Miu Miu offered a counterpoint: a sensual, rebellious take on dressing-up. Not surprisingly, we only had to wait one year after the launch before Muccia Prada received the Council of Fashion Designers of America Best International Designer Award for her Miu Miu collections, establishing the new brand as a coveted fashion label.
Embracing both couture savoir-faire and refined experimentalism, Miu Miu explores fashion as a rarefied form, giving elegance and sophistication a new and twisted meaning.
In the pictures below, from the most recent Miu Miu collection, you can see this playful and colorful design with colors like green and pink.
Miu Miu has taken the world by storm
Miu Miu showed its first collection at New York Fashion Week in 1995, which is just three years after the launch. Kate Moss is selected to be the star in the show, and this move instantly gains the attention of the industry, but the world first became its playground after the label was showed in Paris in 2006. The image set by the brand, very feminine, anti-conformist and even rebellious at times, quickly gained a large following of women who were weary of suits and dark colors.
Miu Miu has become a favorite of street style mavens, who take the quirky clothes to a whole new level
After the first Miu Miu boutique was opened in Via della Spiga, Milan, in 1995, global boutiques has been opened occupying some of the world’s prime retail positions in cities like New York, London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Beijing and Hong Kong.
