Besides her awesome personality and cool style (and amazing pictures of course) there is more than meets the blog. So what has Dana been up to lately? To where does she wander next? Let’s find out…

All about Dana

What motivated you to start your blog?

I was in high school at the time where there was a ridiculous amount of pressure to get into University and know exactly what you wanted to do for the rest of your life. In a way I was lucky, unlike most, I did have some idea of what career path I wanted to take. This happened to be tourism. I was already so in love with travel as well as having family within the industry, so this was a dream.

So what were you up to exactly?

At the time, I was studying for my Certificate in Tourism/Events on top of my high school studies. This felt pretty overwhelming. Until I stumbled into the world of blogging! It was the perfect combination of all things I love and am passionate about. This includes traveling, writing, art and photography. It really is so much easier to stay motivated when you are passionate about something.

Can you talk us through what you were doing before you became a blogger and how you made the transition?

Unlike most blogger stories, I never left a 9-5 job and I haven’t moved across the world (yet) because in a way I have always found myself blogging.

When I was just a small child I had my own blog about me and all of my penpals around the world. Like most teenagers, I had also fallen heavily into the tumblr phase. Currently  I am loving every moment in the crazy world of travel blogging and social media influencing.

Describe the style of your blog

I like to think of my blog as the weird and wonderful part of the internet where I share the weird and wonderful things life provides. I love to keep it as bright and vibrant as possible and aim for it to be an escape from all of the negativity in the world. I focus on honestly, humour and a bundle of fun! In fact, my whole brand is about being awkwardly relatable.

What’s the most important message you want to bring across to your followers?

Some things are going to be out of your control and that is alright. Whether it is work, family, travel, food or even related to life in general, sometimes all you need to do is step back and move on.

Favourite pair of sunglasses/eyeglasses? Why?

I really do have a bit of an obsession with sunglasses and have never really had a favourite. This is because it is way too hard to pick just one. My favourite style at the moment is definitely mirror/reflective. Not only do they look amazing but it makes people-watching a lot less awkward. That sounded a little creepy, but I hope you understand what I meant!

Who is your street style icon?

This one is a little difficult to me because believe it or not, I am not that stylish. However, I do have to say a lot of my inspiration now comes from the amazing ladies on Instagram. I am lucky enough to know a few of these insta babes and the way they radiate confidence and ooze style makes me love them even more.

What has been the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?

For me, I have struggled from the beginning to not compare myself to others. Especially when numbers are a huge part of social media it is often disheartening and way too easy to see these major accounts. I have come to love and learn all of my personal wins and successes. Also, I try to remind myself how incredibly lucky I am for everything I have. As someone who overthinks A LOT and suffers from a fair bit of anxiety that is always a challenge in itself but it is just a part of who I am. I am constantly learning, growing and overall bettering myself.

How do you balance being a successful blogger with other aspects of your life?

I am lucky in that I have an amazing support system and although most of my close friends are spread all around the world. This works perfectly along with what I do, because not only because of the free/cheap accommodation when I travel, but also because we don’t have the pressure to see each other constantly. It is often these people that you can go months and even years without seeing. When you reunite, it feels like you were never apart. Those are the best type of people.

In addition, I always make sure to have a time and place base myself somewhere and give myself a chance to catch up and often recover. The balance is so important and something I will always have as a priority as my life continues.

How would you describe your blogging style?

I believe that my blogging style is something that is always changing and will continue to change. I look back to things I wrote just a year ago and so many things run through my head as to how differently I would do it now. I am still the awkwardly relatable girl filled with wanderlust and donuts but I would like to think of myself a a better version of the girl I was when I first started.

Weirdest or most unexpected talent or skill?

A lot of people usually guess that my creativity is mostly based within photography and writing but in fact I grew up with a love and talent for drawing. To be specific, drawing eyes and my own face were always my strongest areas.

What advice would you give your younger self that you wished you’d gotten?

I don’t know if there is anything I would like to tell my younger self. All the mistakes I have made have always made me a better person. I would not be who I am today without all the stupid things I did along the way.

Where do you want to go next?

With life I want to continue doing what I love and am passionate about. I think I would be really interested in getting into the video side of the blogging world. I have already started playing around with! As for right now, it is so important to not take on too many things at once. The best that I can be aim what I am doing rather than be average at a large range of things. With travel I have a few trips planning already including a very exciting month long digital nomad retreat in Bali! Stay tuned to find out more.
